2011 Training Classes and Three Day Workshops

Looking for guidance in training your gundog?  Soggy Acres Retrievers will be offering Basic and Intermediate gundog retriever classes in 2011. 

The classes will be held over a 6 week period comprised of 2 hours per night per week.  There will also be workshops held over three day weekends for our clients with busier schedules or from father away.  The methods taught will ensure your hunting partner is ready for the upcoming season.  Learn from Jeff, Rommel and the gang how to get your gundog prepared for upland and waterfowl hunting.

The course for our basic gundog training is listed below in outline form:

Course Outline

Evaluation of dogs and handlers

1. The experience and level of each dog and handler will be evaluated.
2. Discuss goals for the course
3. Discuss/Explain training techniques and methods

Basic Obedience

1. Sit, Here, Kennel and Down Commands
2. Use of Whistle Commands

Force Fetch

1. Table work
2. Walking Fetch
3. Stick Fetch
4. Collar Fetch

E-Collar Conditioning

1. E-collar introduction using the sit and here commands
2. Re-enforcement of commands
3. Use in the field

Marking

1. Simple land marks
2. Simple water marks
3. Long Single Marks on both land and water

Upland Hunting

1. Quarter/Flush Drills
2. Mock Hunt

Three day workshops will start in June.  Our weekly classes will start in May. 

Only a limited amount of dog handler teams will be accepted for each class.

Cost $325 per dog and handler team. 

($150 non-refundable deposit is needed to hold a spot in a class)
